Opening of the Public Center and the Center of Social Support in Popasna

The Public Center “Space for Children, Families and Youth” and the Center for Social Support, were opened on September, 16 in Popasna, Luhansk region.

Kateryna Slobodyanik, the director of Save the Children in Ukraine, Mykola Khanatov, the head of the Civil-Military Administration, and Natalia Kirkach, the head of the Slavic Heart Charitable Foundation, were invited to the grand opening of the center.

The head of the CMA stressed that the value of the centers is not in the material resources invested in repair work, but in children`s opportunity to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills, and their possibility to feel confident and safe in the centers.

The event was attended by children who performed a flash mob, and then took part in activities organized for them. In addition, a master classes on hand-made crafts were held.

"I have never made this before. It's so interesting! Can I make another card for my grandmother? ” - said an eight-year-old boy who attended the master class.

Both centers are inclusive, accessible and friendly for children and their parents. The Community Center will provide psychosocial support to children affected by the conflict, and the Center for Social Support will guarantee assistance to the most vulnerable children and their families.

The work on the centers was quick and efficient: only in July the meetings with the local administration regarding the location of the centers were held, and today, in just two months, the grand opening took place.

Both centers were open with the support of the Humanitarian Aid department of the European Commission (ECHO).
